Growing up in California I was never big on foul weather wear. While the Golden state certainly saw its share of downpours, my wet weather exposure was limited to walking to and from my car, which of course was often parked in a garage, so there was no need to protect myself from the elements. And frankly, as a card carrying member of the fashion conscious, slickers and galoshes were not on the best dressed list. Of course everything changed when I moved to Manhattan—a walking city—and discovered there was no way to avoid puddle jumping during a down pour. However, I was quick to learn that there were plenty of stylish rain options that I had been oblivious to in my west coast haze—chic, fitted trench coats for one, and, the most brilliant discovery of all, super cute and cool Wellies from Hunter. And while I thought it couldn’t get any better than the original in a glossy black or the sleek wedge Wellie, it has. The newest addition to this ultra luxe lineup is the Georgie and in my book, this one is the most effortlessly cool rain boot yet.
This buckled beauty in a gorgeous gunmetal has all the design details of a chic leather boot—a slick silhouette that sits just above the ankle, a two tone stacked heel with a platform, and of course a bevy of buckles and straps. There is no question that this rarefied rubber boot will stand up to your chicest looks. Skinny black pants with a fitted tweed jacket and a silk blouse or a black short, fleece tights, a crisp white shirt and a racy red fitted blazer, will all feel right as rain with the Georgie. And don’t be shy about slipping these directional boots on with a something sexy like this red knit body con dress or even a shiny silver number when there’s a deluge after dark. Top all of these looks with a classic but cool trench coat, hipster parka, or when it’s really cold and wet, a sleek black parka.
With the ever increasing amount of annual rainfall, there’s no better time to get your hands on a posh pair of puddle jumpers, and thankfully there are many to choose from. When it comes to a chic selection of boots, you might say when it rains it pours.
