Jil Sander was one of the first to debut an explosion of color with her Spring/Summer 11 collection in Milan. There was an instantaneous clamoring for lucent prints, color blocking and bright accessories. Think minimalism meets haute couture, laid back luxury so to speak.
Soon, Paris too was toying with both brights and pastels on the Isabel Marant catwalk. And who can forget the predecessor Marchesa in New York, Fall 2010? Electric blue and hot pink dresses elegantly screaming to be noticed. Serena van der Woodsen donned the pink one in a recent Gossip girl episode, reigniting the craving for neon.
I, myself, was reigned back into scouring for bright bags and contemplating shoes with more pop. Even dressing up my nails in neon. After months of living in layers and trying to stave off goosebumps, it’s extremely tempting to peel off said layers and trade in for something adverse. Loose, comfortable cottons, vibrant prints and extra strappy sandals, of course. When it comes to Summer there is a slightly more casual vibe and many of the preconceived rules go out the window. Dress up, have fun, mix and match. Everyday is a new chance to experiment, learn and let your own colors shine on their own.
